Lake County Moves Toward Countywide Paratransit Service

For more than a decade, Lake County along with communities, townships and transit partners have been evaluating and working to enhance transportation options for seniors and people with disabilities. This is often referred to as "paratransit."

This year as we recognize the 31st Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) we recognize the progress made over the past three decades to advance accessibility and inclusion. The ADA means different things to many of us. While it has opened doors of accessibility and inclusion to transportation, education, public accommodations, recreation and so much more, there are still too many in our community whose lives have yet to be touched by the ADA's promise.

The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) is working with Pace Suburban Bus to introduce a proposed new countywide coordinated paratransit system. The new service would provide borderless countywide paratransit service, meaning users can get transportation to any area of Lake County for work, shopping, medical appointments, and more and in a timelier manner. Public input opportunities will be made available.
